Why Drink Alone

Sometimes you just want to have a drink with someone.

I've found myself faced with a conundrum.

I've made up my mind and I'm leaving my present job for something more lucrative. I had a plan to go back to upstate NY and obtain my Asbestos Certificate and work up there for a while then relocate back to Philadelphia after a few months time. However, I found out today that the NYS certificate is not valid in PA. So, I would have to retake the exam and get an entirely separate certificate to work in PA. So, here in lies my problem. I have to decide if I'd rather work and live in upstate New York or in Philadelphia. Now a bonus of moving upstate is that I know people in the asbestos business so I already have a definite job and I'd acclimate much easier in NY; however, I've grown very fond of Philadelphia and I'd like to stay here. I have looked into some asbestos businesses in Philly and believe I could get a job with them, so the job factor is not really an issue (except I wouldn't be working with anyone I know in Philly). So, if any of you feel you can help persuade me to re-locate or to stay where I am, I'd love to hear your arguements as to why I should do as such. Please help me out, because I have to make this decision before next Tuesday (I'm giving my resignation on that day).

Philly will always be here and its not going anywhere odds are most of the people you know here will still be here too. If your all set job wise then it just comes down to where you feel comfortable plain and simple. only you know that one, so cant help ya there.

Yeah, I've removed Asbestos, lead, and mold for 4 years (2000-2004) so, the threats of Asbestosis and Mesothelioma are present regardless.
lead poisoning ... cancer, weird mutations etc.
or is that not the case?
ok, but I'm curious - how high risk is the hazmat removal occupation (I don't really know much about it) ...Is it lucrative because of the risk?

It is lucrative because of the risk. I could potentially die from it. If I smoked cigarettes the carcinogenic effect of asbestos gives me a >80% change of getting one of the 2 main diseases associated with asbestos removal. What happens is the small asbestos fibers are shaped like fish-hooks so when they are inhaled into the lungs they hook and stay there forever. The lung scabs over the fibers and that scab grows and grows with every breath. Eventually, the scab weighs down your lungs and your respiratory system fails because you can breathe enough oxygen into your lungs. The oxygen you do manage to get in only increases the size of the scab. So, yeah, it's a shitty way to die....once you've reached that stage of the disease, any breath you take can be your last. I do try my best to be safe and keep the resparator on at all times but, I'm certain there have been moments in which fibers have entered. Each person's lungs and body can take a certain amount of asbestos, but it varies person to person in how much one's body can take. Hopefully, my lungs can hold out til I'm at least in my 60s.
Well it is now December 27, 2009 and I've been back in J-twigg since July 11, 2009. I have my old job back in the asbestos abatement industry and life has become pretty................interesting. I know no one ever goes on this site anymore and no one will be reading this but, I'm high and bored and just decided I'd throw in an update.
